SIAC Battery Replacement

SPORTident SIAC batteries will last 3 or more years, however SPORTident recommends that the battery is replaced after three years.  Indications of the battery needing replacement soon may include: abnormal beeping pattern (e.g. quieter, fewer beeps), multiple recordings on the chip at a control (as seen on the download printout). Note that the "low battery" indication on a printout or at a SIAC test station has been acknowledged by SPORTident to not always be reliable. Also note that if your SIAC battery is not working, the chip should still work as a regular SI-10 by punching.

The battery is not user-replaceable.  We provide a service where we will replace your SIAC with a reconditioned SIAC in a new case with a new battery, thoroughly tested by SPORTident in Germany.  This replacement SIAC will have the same number as your original.  A little bonus is that you can change the colour of your SIAC if you wish. Unfortunately, if your SIAC has a non-standard colour or design you will be required to replace it with one of the standard colours. 

We have a standard process, given that we are unable to keep batteries in stock. This process includes two set times in the year when we will do battery replacements – February and July/August (see below for more information about each). If you need to replace your SIAC battery at another time of the year, please contact us.

• For February battery replacements:
  1. Pre-book your SIAC battery replacement by ordering this item online, before January 20.
  2. Ship your SIAC to us (please remove all straps before shipping it to us, including finger straps and safety straps), to arrive in Ottawa by February 15. We will send you an e-mail with our shipping address once we receive your order.
  3. We will ship your new SIAC back to you no later than February 28
     
     

• For July/August battery replacements if you ARE going to be at the Canadian Orienteering Championships:
  1. Pre-book your SIAC battery replacement by ordering this item online, before June 15. Choose shipping option of "Pick up at COCs".
  2. Bring your SIAC with you to the Canadian Orienteering Championships, and drop it off at the O-Store tent after the day's race is over.
  3. Pick up your SIAC the next morning from the O-Store tent prior to your race.
     
     

• For July/August battery replacements if you ARE NOT going to be at the Canadian Orienteering Championships:
  1. Pre-book your SIAC battery replacement by ordering this item online, before June 15.
  2. Ship your SIAC to us (please remove all straps before shipping it to us including finger straps and safety straps), to arrive in Ottawa two weeks before the Canadian Orienteering Championships. We will send you an e-mail with our shipping address once we receive your order. 
  3. We will ship your new SIAC back to you no later than two weeks after the Canadian Championships.
